All parties remain optimistic over new David de Gea contract

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea made the headlines this morning after he rejected the club’s initial approach to offer him a new contract.

It has always been understood that David de Gea wishes to remain at United for the rest of his career, but the first proposal tabled by the club has been pushed back.

The Athletic reports that there is still an expectation that a positive conclusion would be reached between De Gea’s entourage and Manchester United.

Laurie Whitwell reported: “Ten Hag, meanwhile, has given his blessing for De Gea to continue at United.”

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano backs this up in a new update, adding that all parties remain optimistic that an agreement will be reached.

It is rare that an opening proposal gets accepted by a player, and we are seeing something similar with the potential takeover of Manchester United. The Glazers knew there would be more than one round of bidding.

However, United must tackle an issue that exists with De Gea’s current deal, which makes him the highest paid goalkeeper in the world on £375,000 per week.

The Spaniard doesn’t have the same leverage in talks this time around. Many can see that now, aged 32, he must take a reduction and some feel his limitations are costing the team from reaching the next level.

  1. He has been there for the team every time he was called and in good shape making good performances, so i don’t see why he should not be awarded a contract to stay. We(fans) love him
