Marcus Rashford’s contract negotiations with United expected to heat up in coming months

Marcus Rashford is currently mulling over a new contract with Manchester United, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2023/2024 campaign.

According to The Athletic, talks between the club and the forward are expected to pick up pace in the coming months, and there are already agreements between both parties.

The report confirmed: “Initial discussions between United and Rashford’s representatives have already been held and more are planned, but there have been no major steps forward. Sources on both sides insist these are early days in the process. There is a mutual understanding that this will be the biggest and most important contract of Rashford’s career.”

Rashford’s scintillating form this season has seen him register 27 goals and nine assists in all competitions – the highest-scoring season of his career so far, and there are still plenty of games left to play.

Rashford could see pay increase significantly

The 25-year-old’s contributions and impact on the squad could see him in contention to become one of the highest earners. David de Gea currently tops the wage list with a whopping £375,000 per week, though he is expected to take a significant pay cut to stay at the club beyond his contract’s expiration.

As well as the Spaniard, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Casemiro, Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes all trump Rashford in their weekly wages, as per Spotrac, with the No.10 currently on £200,000 a week.
