Tottenham ready to risk losing Harry Kane for nothing amid Man United interest

Manchester United are looking to sign a striker this summer and Tottenham star Harry Kane has emerged as one of the leading candidates to join the club.

Erik ten Hag is likely to make it his priority to sign another goalscorer this summer, with Marcus Rashford being the only player to have scored more than five Premier League goals this season.

Kane recently became Tottenham and England’s all-time record goalscorer but he is entering the final 12 months of his contract and his future at the London club is far from certain.

United have held a longstanding interest in Kane over the years but a move has never materialised, partly due to the finances a transfer would have required but also Tottenham’s unwillingness to negotiate with rivals. Now, an update on Kane’s future has been offered and Tottenham are reportedly ready to risk losing Kane for nothing.

That’s according to the Mirror, who say that Tottenham are crafting a plan to convince Kane to stay at the club and are ready to lose him for free next summer.

As per the report, United are pushing hard to sign Kane in a potential £100m deal but Tottenham are said to be ‘desperate’ not to sell the forward to a Premier League rival. The development comes just hours after it emerged that Antonio Conte had left the club by mutual consent.

SN’s verdict…
United’s interest in Kane is understandable but at £100m, you could understand why the club may be more inclined to target someone like Victor Osimhen, who is five years younger than Kane.

Kane is hardly over the hill but you are not guaranteed to get five years of consistent goalscoring from him, whereas a younger striker could offer that.

Any big-money moves will also depend on whether the club is sold by the end of the season and whether money can be generated through sales.

Harry Maguire, Alex Telles, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof are all players with increasingly bleak futures at the club and could be moved on to finance transfers.
