As if Manchester United’s week couldn’t get any worse, Erik ten Hag is now sweating on the fitness of Casemiro.

The midfielder appeared to be struggling in the first half of the Red Devils’ dismal defeat at Anfield yesterday, though Ten Hag trusted that he was fit enough to go back out in the second half.

That was unfortunately when matters took a turn for the worse, as after opening the scoring minutes prior to the interval, Liverpool then went on to score another six goals without one in response from the Manchester side.

The result marked United’s heaviest league defeat, as well as their worst meeting on record against their biggest rivals.

Casemiro a doubt for midweek European clash

Now, attention turns to Europa League action for the players to try and dust themselves off and get back into the swing of things, though they may be without their main man in midfield.

According to ESPN, Casemiro will be assessed ahead of Thursday’s game against Real Betis after picking up an injury in yesterday’s match – a considerable blow given the importance of bouncing back imminently.
