5 key things to know ahead of Liverpool vs Manchester United

Manchester United travel to Anfield this weekend and they will be looking to strengthen their grip on a place in the top four. Unless you have a ticket, the match will be available to watch live on Sky Sports Premier League from 4pm on Sunday; kick-off 4.30pm.

Liverpool have been very topsy turvy this season which gives United a super chance to do the double over them. Jurgen Klopp’s side have kept a couple of clean sheets in a row now, against Crystal Palace and Wolves, which was important for them but it’s worth noting that neither of those teams are renowned for attacking football.

Last month, Liverpool beat Everton and 10-man Newcastle without conceding a goal, but they still got hammered by Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Here are 5 things you need to know ahead of Liverpool vs Manchester United.

Last Manchester United player to score at Anfield…

Manchester United last scored at Anfield four years ago. Allison spilled Romelu Lukaku’s cross into Jesse Lingard’s path, only for the midfielder to score an equalising goal.

Sadly Liverpool went on to win the match and we’ve been unable to score at the home of our rivals since.

Marcus Rashford could match a Premier League record

There is no denying that Marcus Rashford is in the form of his life right now. With 10 goals in his last 10 Premier League appearances, we know that Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on him this Sunday.

If Rashford scores against Liverpool, however, he will join Ruud van Nistelrooy, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo by becoming just the fourth United player to score in six successive Premier League appearances – something Van Nistelrooy did three times.

On Rashford’s form, Klopp said (via Reuters): “I must say it’s difficult, pretty much impossible, to be happy about something positive at Manchester United when you are the manager of Liverpool, but I am happy for Rashford.

“Now he’s playing incredible. His speed, technique, how calm he is in front of goal.”

Mohamed Salah’s record against Manchester United

While Liverpool keep a close eye on Rashford, we’ll have to do the same with Mohamed Salah.

The Liverpool star is looking to land his own six-in-a-row record after scoring in his last five games against the Reds. On top of that, Salah has managed 10 goals from just 11 appearances against United.

Erik ten Hag looks forward to ‘hostile’ atmosphere

Erik ten Hag has told a hostile Anfield to “bring it on”.

The manager believes he and his players will thrive on the atmosphere away at Liverpool as they search for their first win there in seven years!

Ten Hag said (via The Sun): “I’m looking forward to it, the ambiance, the atmosphere. It will be great, it will be hostile against us, but we like that.”

Andy Madley in the middle

The referee on Sunday is Andy Madley.

Interestingly, Liverpool have never lost a match with the Huddersfield-born referee in charge. Hopefully that changes on Sunday.
