Gary Neville believes Harry Kane has limited options if goalscorer leaves Tottenham

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes that his former club is the only realistic option in the Premier League for Harry Kane, should the Tottenham Hotspur captain depart in the summer.

Tottenham will face a huge decision at the end of the season unless Kane agrees to new terms with the London club. His contract is due to expire in June 2024 and it remains to be seen if Daniel Levy is willing to risk losing the club’s biggest asset on a free.

The 29-year-old’s career was in the spotlight again this week as Tottenham crashed out of the FA Cup after losing to Sheffield United. It was Kane’s only chance at silverware this season – but he will go another year with winning anything.

With United in the market for a new striker, Kane to United links seem inevitable.

Gary Neville believes that United is Kane’s only option away from Tottenham if he wishes to remain in the Premier League. Man City have Erling Haaland, so Kane has already missed his chance to move to the Etihad.

“He’s a great professional and I think if Harry Kane could leave now and get him an exit out of there to a club in Manchester – probably United or City, I think he would take that opportunity,” Neville said on Sky Sports via the Mirror.

“Now, it’s more than likely that it wouldn’t be City because of their [Erling] Haaland expenditure and what they’ve done with him. Manchester United are desperate for a centre-forward.

“Tottenham fans will be furious with me – they’ll say it’s me coming on television trying to get their player to Manchester United. It’s not. It just looks to me like at this moment in time that is the most likely move.

“Chelsea – I can’t see him going to Chelsea, Harry. He’s quite loyal to Tottenham and there’s a big rivalry between Chelsea and Tottenham. I don’t see that happening. They do need a centre-forward [but] I don’t see that happening.

“He’s not going to go to Arsenal, again because of the rivalry. So Manchester United, I think, is the only option in England for Harry Kane this summer. Bayern Munich has been mentioned and that could happen.

“Daniel Levy would be happier if he was sold internationally, so we could see that. But I think if Harry wants to win trophies then he’s going to have to leave Tottenham, because they do struggle with that aspect.”

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that United are currently a top goalscorer away from being one of the best teams in Europe, so we’ll be even better next season if Ten Hag is granted his wish, whether it’s Kane, Victor Oshimen or someone we haven’t been linked with yet.

I’d prefer to see us opt for someone younger than Kane, mind.

  1. I think Kane is on the strikers list of .,his best days are behind him, and he won’t be cheap if he comes to man UTD…would prefer a player same age as rashford….we will see☝️

    1. I agree, Kane won’t come cheap, but he will come with goals. I also agree that UTD should look for a younger option than Kane. But he is English so I guess they’d push for UTD, unless he will pull an Alan Shearer and retire at Spurs
