Erik ten Hag provides update on Anthony Martial’s availability

Erik ten Hag has given an update on the availability of Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman has missed 26 games through injuries this season and it’s getting to the stage where supporters are more surprised to see his name on the teamsheet than they are to hear he’s unavailable.

His time at the club will likely come to an end this summer, as it’s probably registered with Ten Hag that he simply cannot rely on Martial to lead the line when United are trying to compete for trophies.

For example, Sunday saw the lift the Carabao Cup at Wembley after a triumphant victory against Newcastle, and Martial was ruled out of the match.

Tomorrow United take on West Ham in a fifth-round FA Cup tie, and Sunday they travel to Merseyside to face rivals Liverpool at Anfield. Ten Hag will be relying on Wout Weghorst for both must-win matches.

Ten Hag on Martial

Speaking to MUTV, he was questioned on the prospect of the No.9 returning.

“With Martial, do you know when he will be back? Will he play before the March internationals?”

“I hope but I won’t give a prospective [time] or an expectation about that. [I will] let him do his work as several times now he has been back and he drops back too quickly. So we [have to] give him the time and I hope he is [then] on board [as available again], but first, in this moment, we are doing really well in the set-up. When he is available, we will have another option, a good option. Let’s give him the time and we will see when he is back. Then we will be happy because we have a quality option extra for the rest of the season.”
