Manchester United midfielder named in FIFAPRO Team of the Year 2022

After celebrating Manchester United’s Carabao Cup triumph at the weekend, Casemiro has been selected in FIFAPRO’s World 11.

The team is chosen from a shortlist of 26 players, and our Brazilian midfielder has made the cut following another impressive season in 2022 – winning the La Liga, Champions League and UEFA Super Cup before switching Madrid for Manchester.

The World 11 is voted by the players, based on performances between 8 August 2021 to 18 December 2022.

Last season’s TOTY was revealed on Monday just 24 hours after United’s 2-0 win over Newcastle at Wembley, meaning that Casemiro has been kept busy on the accolade front. There was no place for former United former Cristiano Ronaldo, who had been included in every FIFAPro team from 2006 through to 2021. He was merely given a mention for breaking the men’s senior international goals record.

Casemiro scored United’s first goal with a header to open the scoring before Marcus Rashford doubled our lead a few minutes later. He has a knack for popping up with the odd important goal, which is what you want from your midfield general to inspire big wins like we got on Sunday.

The Brazil international has quickly proven during his time in England that he still has plenty to offer at the highest level, and I think you would struggle to name a better defensive midfielder in Europe this season.

A day of many congratulations text messages for Casemiro! And more to follow we hope.
