Erik ten Hag has already set his sights on the next opportunity for silverware, so much so that he forgot to take Manchester United’s Carabao Cup trophy from the press room.
The manager has put an end to United’s six-year trophy drought just six months into his tenure, which is a testament to the pivotal impact he has had on a once-deflated side.
The Red Devils saw out a 2-0 win at Wembley Stadium to overturn in-form Newcastle United and lift the cup in front of their travelling supporters.
Post-match, Ten Hag was on media duties to assess the win and when he stood up to leave the room, he left the Carabao Cup on the desk in front of him. When reminded, he joked: “I can leave it because next cup, eh? This one is in.”
