Why Cristiano Ronaldo is ineligible to receive Carabao Cup medal if United win

Supporters have questioned whether or not Cristiano Ronaldo will receive a Carabao Cup medal if Manchester United win the trophy this afternoon.

The Portugal international is actually ineligible to receive one due to the fact Erik ten Hag did not utilise him throughout the tournament.

Ronaldo reached a mutual agreement with the Red Devils to terminate his contract back in November last year and went on to complete a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, meaning he will not be adding any more European honours to his collection either.

The 38-year-old did, however, win the League Cup with United in his first stint as a Red. He scored in the final of the 2005/2006 campaign in a 4-0 win against Wigan Athletic, and then again in 2009 when the Reds defeated Tottenham Hotspur on penalties.

Today’s final kicks off at 4.30 pm GMT at Wembley Stadium, with United looking to end their six-year trophy drought.
