Manchester United captain Harry Maguire sends pre-final message to team-mates

Manchester United’s club captain Harry Maguire has outlined how his team-mates must tackle today’s game when they take on Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

How nervous are we, fellow Reds? Today provides a chance for United to have something to show for their outstanding resurgence throughout the first half of the season, and for Erik ten Hag to show he means business to our rivals – not that that wasn’t clear before!

Almost six years of waiting, trophyless and deflated, and it could come to an end today. A lot of people will say “it’s just the League Cup” if we win it – drown them out. The players and Ten Hag deserve the glory today before we crack on and turn our attention back to the other three competitions.

Maguire’s message

Maguire has issued a rallying call to his team-mates and whilst the defender is unlikely to start the match, he will be the one lifting the trophy if we secure the win.

He said via the club website: “Go out and enjoy it. Play with lots of intensity and take it all in really. Play with a smile on your face. I feel a big part of football is when you’re enjoying your football and you’re playing with a smile on your face, you bring the energy.

“You bring the energy and the intensity to your performance, so yeah, I think that’s the main message: go out, take it all in, enjoy it and win the game.”
