Reports suggest Mason Greenwood has found out he will become a father for the first time just weeks after charges of attempted rape and assaulted against against him were dropped.

The news comes from The Sun after Manchester United began an internal investigation into Mason Greenwood’s case, although he has been suspended by the club on full pay since January 2022.

It is suggested in the report that Greenwood’s family are aware and ‘looking forward’ to welcoming the couple’s new arrival in the summer.

Greenwood, 21, was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault in October last year.

An investigation by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) was dropped because a key witness withdrew their statement and new material came to light. This has led to a lot of uncertainty about Greenwood being allowed to return to United.

The report adds that while United are conducting their own investigation, the men’s senior squad are said to be split over whether or not Greenwood should be allowed to return to the first-team.

Among the women’s squad, players are said to be deeply concerned about the possibility of Greenwood coming back.
