Newcastle star admits feeling ‘relaxed’ ahead of Carabao Cup final against Manchester United

Newcastle United’s Dan Burn has denied any prospect of feeling nervous ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final and is instead feeling “relaxed”.

Manchester United take on the Magpies this Sunday at Wembley for the chance to lift their first piece of silverware since 2017. Eddie Howe has had his side in outstanding form throughout the first half of the season, but they have hit somewhat of a rough patch lately, having gone four Premier League games without a win.

The streak has consequently pushed them down to fifth place after spending months firmly cemented within the top four. Last weekend, they suffered their first league defeat since August through a 2-0 loss to Liverpool.

Saturday’s loss also saw goalkeeper Nick Pope receive a straight red card, ruling him out of this weekend’s final. He is a significant loss to the team as his performances this season have been game-changers for Newcastle, which is further proven by the fact he leads the running for the Golden Glove award with 12 clean sheets.

Still, defender Burn is not letting the pressure get to him. Speaking via Football Daily, he said: “I’ve been asked a few times whether I’m feeling nervous about it [the final] but I’m really not. I feel quite relaxed about it. I think playing for how long I’ve played, it’s just another game, but maybe as I’m just about to go out it might not be like that!”
