Bayern Munich monitoring Marcus Rashford contract situation

Marcus Rashford is one of Europe’s outstanding players this season and the 25-year-old is gunning to equal his best-ever goalscoring campaign of 22 goals.

His late winner against Leeds United last weekend took his tally to 21 for the season and he could mark the trip to Barcelona this week with another strike, which would mean he has scored 14 goals in his last 16 appearances.

Paris Saint-Germain have a longstanding interest in the forward but a move has never materialised but with his contract running down at Old Trafford, there is growing unrest among supporters over his future.

Rashford has less than 18 months remaining on his deal at the club after United exercised their option to extend his contract for an additional 12 months.

Now, in addition to Paris Saint-Germain, there are claims that another European powerhouse are circling. That’s according to German outlet SportBild, who say that Bayern Munich are monitoring Rashford’s contract situation.

It’s claimed that officials at the Bavarian club have ‘noted’ that Rashford’s contract has been extended by another season, making him a free agent in 2024.

As per the report, Bayern Munich are said to have been impressed by Rashford’s performances at this winter’s World Cup in Qatar but are aware that prying him away from United would be challenging. Instead, they were exploring the possibility of signing him as a free agent.

Bayern’s hunt for a striker comes after Robert Lewandowski controversially left the club last summer and a like-for-like replacement was overlooked in the market.

SN’s verdict…
There’s no denying that Rashford’s stunning form is fantastic to see from a supporter’s viewpoint but his contract is a big issue and one that should be treated with huge urgency.

United cannot afford to let Rashford leave the club and Erik ten Hag will be desperate to make sure that does not happen. Continuing to improve the team around Rashford will, of course, make a compelling case for Rashford that Old Trafford is the best place for him to continue his personal development.
