Raphael Varane is one of many beneficiaries of Manchester United’s appointment of Erik ten Hag, with the Frenchman completely reviving his Old Trafford career since the Dutchman’s arrival last year.
Varane endured a highly turbulent first season at the club, with injuries plaguing his progress under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
Ten Hag immediately placed Varane on an individual training programme during pre-season and since then, he has sustained just one injury and has been a mainstay in the team.
Varane has forged a seemingly unbreakable bond alongside Lisandro Martinez and the late addition of Casemiro has greatly improved United.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Elland Road, Varane has opened up on his improved fitness and regular appearances, revealing he recently discussed the ‘buzz’ at United with Casemiro.
“It’s true that, so far this season, I’ve been selected to start in a lot of matches compared to last season,” Varane told Premier League Productions, via the official Manchester United website.
“Which allows me to get settled and to share my experience and positional know-how, to have a bearing on the rhythm of each match, when we’re playing well or not so well.
“But I always try to guide and assist my team-mates in defence and I’m really enjoying my match time.
“I love playing, and I was saying the very same thing just the other day to Casemiro. There’s something really special going on here, a real buzz about the place and emotions are running high. I’m really glad that I’ve integrated into the team and to my life over here so well.”

Varane’s return to fitness and form has undeniably been one of the main reasons behind United’s promising season and it certainly bodes well for the future.
Varane completely embodies what United are trying to achieve and become and with him at the heart of the defence, Ten Hag stands a better chance of turning the club’s fortunes around.
Casemiro’s arrival has only added to that – their wealth of experience at the highest level will be invaluable.
