Ben Jacobs reckons Manchester United will target Youri Tielemans in the summer

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans faces an uncertain future at the King Power Stadium and Manchester United have been linked with the Belgium international for a long time.

The Foxes spent £40m (via BBC Sport) to sign Tielemans from AS Monaco in 2019 and it looks like he will leave for free later this year.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs believes Tielemans could become a ‘real option’ for Manchester United in the summer should the Red Devils secure a place in the Champions League. He also states that Arsenal are likely to join the race for the 25-year-old’s signature.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs provided an update on Tielemans, saying: “I think that Tielemans was was not too sold on Manchester United under previous managers. But, with Erik ten Hag turning things around, if Manchester United qualify for the Champions League that could be a real option for them.

“If they lose a midfielder, they might feel like a box-to-box midfielder or an attacking midfielder, like Youri Tielemans, he could be the type of player that not only balances the books a little bit but can chip in with some goals and help add a little bit of control into central midfield. Manchester United and Arsenal are still two to watch.”

A report from Sky Sports recently stated that United discussed the possibility of signing Tielemans during the final hours of the winter transfer window. Erik ten Hag opted to sign Bayern Munich’s Marcel Sabitzer on loan following Christian Eriksen’s injury.

Tielemans’ current deal at Leicester expires in the summer, so you can see why United held fire in January, knowing that he could be available as a free agent in the summer.
