Italian journalist warns Manchester United will have to pay club-record fee for Victor Osimhen

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a summer move for Victor Osimhen.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United have to pay a club-record fee to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer.

We already know that Manchester United’s summer spending with rely heavily on a takeover happening before the end of the season. The Glazers are making signals that they want a sale in the coming months, but we all know these takeovers can take time to complete.

United have not made a permanent signing during the winter transfer window. The club being put up for sale is a big factor behind that, as well as the fact there isn’t a lot of money available in the club.

Gianluca Di Marzio claims United wanted to sign Osimhen ahead of this season and United could return for the Nigerian attacker again. However, in order to secure his signature, Di Marzio believes the Reds will have to splash a record fee. Napoli are likely to demand £105 million for the Serie A’s top scorer.

Di Marzio told soccernews.nl (H/t SportWitness): “I don’t think any of these transfers will get through in the winter transfer window. But I wouldn’t be surprised if United play for Victor Osimhen in the summer, because they wanted to sign him ahead of this season.

“They are great. And if Napoli win Serie A this season, my expectation is that they will let him go. Man United have to pay at least €120m for him, but Premier League clubs have that option, so it could well happen. Manchester United certainly want t sign him, but there are other clubs who are planning the same.”

At 23, you can see why Ten Hag would opt for Osimhen over the likes of Harry Kane. He may be a more pricy option, but United need to bite the bullet after missing out on Erling Haaland a year ago.

We weren’t even in the race for Haaland.
