Erik ten Hag gave the impression this afternoon that Facundo Pellistri will not be allowed to leave Manchester United on loan this month.

At the beginning of January, Pellistri was one of the players that looked certain to go out on loan because he had yet to make his first-team debut for Manchester United.

Pellistri’s first appearance came in the Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Charlton and he caused havoc against Nottingham Forest after coming on from the bench in the semi-final first leg victory.

I thought the Uruguayan’s short cameo on Wednesday warranted another opportunity this weekend. Even if it’s 20 minutes or so, I genuinely think there Pellistri has something about him.

While the 21-year-old’s agent has been trying to get him a move away from United, Ten Hag has clarified that Pellistri will remain at the club for the rest of the season.

“We have our ideas,” Ten Hag said (via Manchester Evening News), “for some players we are open for loans but with some players they are not, because they are first, talented, they have to develop first in our environment. Second, we have many games to cover and we need players to cover that. When you play 30 games in 10 days you need a lot of players.

“The way we put on Pellistri on Wednesday is already a signal.”

We could still see players like Zidane Iqbal and Brandon Williams go out on loan before Tuesday’s deadline.

Iqbal could do with regular first team football.
