Antony rallies Man United troops ahead of semi-final tie vs Nottingham Forest

Manchester United winger Antony is enduring a difficult spell at the club and his performances have attracted plenty of criticism from pundits and commentators.

The Brazil star enjoyed a stunning start to life in Manchester, becoming the first player to score in his first three Premier League appearances for the club.

Since then, it has been far more difficult and he has withstood fierce criticism after last weekend’s 3-2 loss against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Games coming thick and fast, however, and the former Ajax wizkid will soon have the opportunity to redeem himself as United make the trip to face Nottingham Forest in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Roughly 24 hours before the game kicks off at the City Ground, Antony has shared a motivational message on his social channels, insisting he is seeking to evolve.

“Important week for us!” Antony wrote on Twitter. “Seeking to evolve to give my best to the team. It has always been a dream to be and I will give all I have to honor this club cause we are stronger together.”

SN’s verdict…
Antony certainly has his doubters at the moment but it cannot be forgotten that not all players adapt immediately to the Premier League and at Antony’s age, a slow start is far from disgraceful.

Not every player is a Bruno Fernandes or a Lisandro Martinez – some players need time to acclimatise to new surroundings and team-mates. Antony could be one of them.

His star potential is there for everyone to see but most importantly, Erik ten Hag believes in him and that’s all that matters at this point.
