Newcastle hold talks over Manchester United’s Scott McTominay

Newcastle United have reportedly held talks over Scott McTominay.

According to The Athletic, the club have been interested in the Manchester United midfielder since last summer and have seemingly reignited their pursuit in the January transfer window.

However, the report confirms that United are not looking to oversee any winter departures and that the club view the Scotland international as a key member of the squad. A deal could be revisited at the end of the season.

McTominay could opt for United exit

The 26-year-old is an academy graduate at Carrington and has been invaluable to the side across his time in the senior setup, but has fallen down the pecking order since Casemiro arrived in August.

When the Brazilian is fit and available, McTominay will likely not be regularly utilised as a starter and, given his age, that may be a deciding factor for him looking to move elsewhere. He’ll know that Eddie Howe’s project at St James’ Park provides an exciting opportunity to be a part of the Magpies’ revolution.
