Manchester United join race for impressive Brentford goalkeeper

It remains to be seen if Manchester United will offer David de Gea a new contract or sign a new goalkeeper in the summer.

David de Gea has been a mainstay as No 1 for the majority of his time at Manchester United – which currently stands as a 12-year stint since his 2011 transfer from Atletico Madrid.

Jack Butland joined on loan this month but neither him or Tom Heaton are of the required standard to be United’s number one, if De Gea is moved on in the near future.

It’s no surprise to see United mentioned in connection with David Ray, the Brentford goalkeeper, who looks like one of the best options in the Premier League.

The Telegraph claim that United and Chelsea have joined Tottenham in the race to sign the 27-year-old goalkeeper.

Raya has just 18 months left on his current deal at Brentford. With clubs like United beginning to show interest, the Premier League outfit may offer him a new contract before the end of the season.

De Gea hasn’t had a bad season by any means, but many believe United would be better suited to a ball-playing goalkeeper, especially under Erik ten Hag.
