Manchester United starlet Zidane Iqbal seeks loan move in January

Zidane Iqbal was left on the bench for Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The 19-year-old impressed Erik ten Hag during the press season tour but he is not quite ready for United’s first team and would benefit from a loan spell in the Championship.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Iqbal is keen to leave on loan this month after being an unused substitute for the 11th time last night.

Ten Hag opted to give a full debut to Kobbie Mainoo instead and this shows that the manager has a few young midfielders coming through the ranks. Charlie Savage is another lad who did well during the summer.

The young midfielder doesn’t want to get left behind, so by going out on loan, he can prove himself and stake a claim at Old Trafford for next season.

Iqbal only senior appearance for United came as a substitute in the Champions League group stage draw against Young Boys in December 2021.

Ten Hag has a number of midfielders he can select ahead of Iqbal, which is why I think he should have been sent on loan in the summer. Casemiro has made the midfield his own, Christian Eriksen has become a starter and Bruno Fernandes has the licence to enter the attacking third.

Iqbal needs a good loan move.
