Team news for Manchester United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final tie tonight against Charlton Athletic. Kick-off 8pm.

The Red Devils will be looking to secure a place in the first semi-final of the season on their quest to lift their first piece of silverware in five years – a streak that Erik ten Hag is keen to end.

United team news

Ten Hag will likely want to integrate several youth players into the mix tonight given the opposition, however, it’s still important to deploy a strong team and ensure qualification.

One notable omission is Bruno Fernandes, who misses the match due to suspension after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament last game. His absence in any other circumstance would have likely made way for Donny van de Beek to come into the lineup, but the Dutchman picked up an injury last week and is currently ruled out of action.

Anthony Martial is fit and will almost certainly feature. The manager is careful with the Frenchman’s game time at the moment to make sure he avoids any further injuries, but a short cameo tonight would benefit the forward and may build his confidence if he can find the back of the net.

Jack Butland has completed his loan move for the remainder of the season and could be in line to make his debut this evening. David de Gea was deployed in the FA Cup tie on Friday, but Martin Dubravka had been utilised in previous rounds of the Carabao Cup.

Charlton’s goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer may be sidelined due to concussion protocol that saw him miss his side’s recent fixture with Lincoln City, whilst full-back Mandela Egbo will not make the trip due to injury.
