Manchester United prepare to hold fresh talks for Wout Weghorst

Manchester United have scheduled a new round of talks to agree a deal for Wout Weghorst.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Besiktas insist that the two clubs must agree on a compensation fee so that they can seek a replacement forward.

He also confirmed that all parties are confident and the clubs’ positions are edging closer to an agreement.

The 30-year-old will need to have his season-long loan spell terminated early in order to pen a new loan contract for the remaining months of the 2022/2023 campaign.

Is Weghorst the right signing? Stretty’s verdict

Personally, I’d have liked to see Joao Felix at Old Trafford as I have always considered him an exciting player. He’s also obviously significantly younger.

However, Felix is not an out-and-out striker like Weghorst and the fees his agent was demanding were obscene.

The Dutchman provides a short-term solution before Erik ten Hag can hopefully invest on the forward market in the summer. He’s being signed purely to score goals when called upon, and that is what he has proved he can do.
