Fred and Rashford star: player ratings from Man United 3-0 Charlton Athletic

Erik ten Hag has reached his first semi-final in charge of Manchester United after his side secured their passage into the last four of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.

Charlton Athletic made the trip to Old Trafford as heavy underdogs but Ten Hag named a much-rotated side for the tie, with most of the first-team regulars rested ahead of this weekend’s derby against Manchester City.

Antony was one of the players from the win over Everton last week who kept his place in the team and it was the Brazil international who got United on their way after he scored a beautiful curler in the first half.

Marcus Rashford, the man of the moment, was introduced with roughly 30 minutes to play and a quickfire brace from the 25-year-old sealed the scoreline.

Man United Player Ratings

Tom Heaton – 7
The veteran goalkeeper wasn’t called into action too often but was solid when he had to be.

Diogo Dalot – N/A
Came off in the first half with an injury. Hopefully, it was just a precaution.

Harry Maguire – 7
His pinged balls to Alejandro Garnacho started several good moves for United.

Lisandro Martinez – 7
Back in the line-up for the first time since returning from the World Cup – another great outing.

Tyrell Malacia – 7
Made a number of fantastic tackles and recoveries to intercept dangerous counter-attacks from the visitors.

Not his best 90 minutes.

Fred – 9
United’s best player on the pitch and almost shocked Old Trafford with a spectacular free-kick.

Can’t ask for more on your debut as a 17-year-old – he did really well.

Two goals in as many games, hopefully he keeps this run going.

United’s most potent threat throughout the game.

Anthony Elanga – 6
It’s going to be tough for him for the rest of the season. From his perspective, a loan move may be the best option.

Quite the recovery for the right-back. He’s now a real option for Ten Hag.

The cement between the stones.
