Manchester United working on deal to sign Wout Weghorst on loan

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Wout Weghorst in January.

According to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercado, Manchester United are making significant progress on a loan deal for Dutch striker Wout Weghorst, who is currently on loan at Turkish outfit Besiktas from Burnley following their relegation to the Championship.

It is understood that Erik ten Hag appreciates Weghorst’s profile as a centre-forward and the report stresses that the final details of the move could be finalised relatively quickly.

Weghorst, 30, reportedly sees a move to United as an exciting challenge.

This would be great news for Ten Hag as it would give him a proper No. 9 for the remainder of the season. Plus, if Weghorst impressed during his stint at Old Trafford, there’s a chance we could make it a permanent move in the summer.

Personally, I think Weghorst would be a brilliant short-term option. I’d also argue that he would be a greater presence than Cristiano Ronaldo was for United this season.

Signing a striker in January could make a huge difference to United’s season and I think Weghorst would be a clever loan signing.
