Erik Ten Hag explains why Antony is not in Man United’s squad to face Bournemouth

Manchester United are preparing to host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils, led by Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag, will know that they can move up to third in the table with a win and if Newcastle United lose against Arsenal.

The matchup, which is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m (UK time), will present the Red Devils with a golden opportunity to cement their place inside the league’s top four.

However, if Ten Hag is to see his side take all three points away from tonight’s game, he will need to do it without the help of Brazilian winger Antony.

The South American attacker has not been included in the 20-time league winner’s matchday squad and fans have been left wondering why.

The 22-year-old hasn’t been in the best of form since the league restarted following the winter World Cup in Qatar, but if he were fully fit, he should surely command at least a place on United’s bench – that isn’t the case though, and according to the BBC’s Shamoon Hafez, it is because he has picked up an untimely injury.

Taking to Twitter ahead of kickoff, Hafez said: “Ten Hag says Antony is not in the MUFC squad tonight as he is injured.”
