Martin Dubravka reflects on enjoyable Manchester United loan spell

Martin Dubravka has thanked Manchester United for the opportunity following his return to Newcastle United.

The goalkeeper was David de Gea’s backup option for the first half of the season, but he failed to make a single appearance for the club in the Premier League.

Dubravka was limited to just two appearances in the Carabao Cup.

In an Instagram post, Dubravka commented on his time at Manchester United and his future with the Magpies.

“Hi guys, I have been recalled from loan at Manchester United and will return to Newcastle.

“Although short, it has been an enjoyable experience in Manchester and I wish to sincerely thank all the coaches, staff, players and fans of MUFC for their warmth and support during my loan spell.

“Regarding Newcastle, I have been delighted to see the club make such an impressive start to the season! Newcastle is my home and I will be back to support the squad and the goalkeeping group for the second half of the season.

“As always I will give my all to the team and will continue in any way that I can to hopefully a memorable season. Wishing you all a very happy new year!”

Dubravka would have been hoping for more minutes at Manchester United, but De Gea has played well up until this point – and I don’t think the Slovakia is that much of an upgrade on Tom Heaton.

With 130 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle, Dubravka returns to Eddie Howe’s squad to fight for a place with Nick Pope.

A number of United players have responded to the news that Dubravka’s loan deal has been cancelled.

His Manchester United teammates acknowledged his departure with comments on his Instagram post, including Bruno Fernandes and De Gea.

We wish him the very best in the future – until he faces United.
