Manchester United have secured a fifth consecutive win in all competitions and their third in the Premier League, taking them into the top four for the first time this season.

Erik ten Hag made just one change from the side that beat Nottingham Forest earlier this week, with Alejandro Garnacho replacing Marcus Rashford on the left-hand side.

Speaking before the game, Ten Hag revealed that Rashford had been dropped from the side due to a disciplinary issue but the pair were all smiles after the full-time whistle.

It was a cagey affair for the majority of the 90 minutes but United spurned several chances to score. With roughly 15 minutes to play, the Reds found the breakthrough as, of course, Rashford scored the winner.

Moments later he had the ball in the net for a second time but after a lengthy VAR check, the goal was disallowed for handball – the second time that has happened to Rashford this season.

Man United Player Ratings

David de Gea – 8
Made two crucial stops to keep United in the game – first on Ruben Neves and then on Raul Jimenez in stoppage-time.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 8
His impressive run continues and now, suddenly, Ten Hag seems to have competition at right-back.

Raphael Varane – 8
Back in the side like he never left. Good performance.

Luke Shaw – 9
Perhaps Ten Hag has discovered a new position for Shaw – another flawless outing at centre-back.

Tyrell Malacia – 7
Not as rash as he tends to be on occasion, showing signs of maturity.

Christian Eriksen – 6
Not enough penetration from midfield this time but the lack of movement made it difficult for the Dane.

Casemiro – 8
We’re running out of words to describe this man – absolute colossus.

Bruno Fernandes – 7
Not as involved in the final third as he would have liked to have been but was crucial in the winning goal.

Antony – 7
Definitely an improvement on the performance against Nottingham Forest. Involved in the move that preceded Rashford’s disallowed goal.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6
Missed an incredible chance to give United the lead in the first half.

Anthony Martial – 6
Involved in some good moves but seems to lack intensity.
