Raphael Varane happy with how strongly Manchester United finished 2022

Raphael Varane has been brilliant for Manchester United this season.

The last thing we need is a reoccurrence of the injuries that forced him to miss a lot of football last season.

However, Varane stood up to the plate after returning from the World Cup. He returned earlier than expected to start against Nottingham Forest during the week as United kept another clean sheet.

It was the same story today on the clean sheet front, with Varane partnered by Luke Shaw, who has done an excellent job at centre-back in our last two matches.

Varane dominated the aerial duels with another commanding performance against Wolves.

After reaching the World Cup final, only to lose against Argentina, Ten Hag probably felt he would need to pick up Varane but that hasn’t been the case. He looks focused on the job at hand and was quick to take to social media after United’s 1-0 win on New Year’s Eve.

Varane tweeted: “Five wins in a row a strong way to end the year. Happy new year everyone!!”

Long may the clean sheets continue!
