Marcus Rashford is in the form of his life and the 25-year-old painted his name across the Molineux on Saturday afternoon as his late strike was enough to secure a third consecutive Premier League victory for the Reds.

Rashford’s second-half goal was his sixth of the season in the league and 11th in total, putting him on track to score 20 or more goals in a season for three out of the last four campaigns.

Speaking after Rashford’s mazy run and strike, deputising centre-back Luke Shaw was quick to sing his team-mate’s praises, insisting the winger is ‘world class’ and can become one of the best players in the world.

“He is in a really good way at the moment,” Shaw is quoted as saying by the BBC.

“Extremely confident, very positive. He is world class and he can be one of the best players in the world if he keeps going.”

Lisandro Martinez’s absence after the World Cup, coupled with illness striking both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire, Shaw has played the last two games at centre-back.

“I’m really enjoying it,” Shaw said after the game.

“I said to the manager I will play wherever he wants me to. It helps playing next to Varane. I’ve really enjoyed it with him talking to me all the time and helping me. I’m really happy to get the win and keep a clean sheet.”

SN’s verdict…
Rashford’s talent has always been there and unfortunately, the majority of his critics took it too far last season when he was recovering from two serious injuries.

The 25-year-old has, in truth, only had one bad season in his career and he’s now on course to score more goals than he has ever done in one single campaign.

With his contract winding down, it’s now up to United to continue capturing that talent and convince him that Old Trafford is where he should be spending his best years.
