Manchester United are gearing up to face Wolves in the Premier League in what could be Erik ten Hag’s fifth consecutive win in all competitions – the first time he would be achieving that feat since taking charge earlier this year.
The Dutchman made just one change from the side that comfortably beat Nottingham Forest earlier this week, with youngster Alejandro Garnacho replacing Marcus Rashford on the left-hand side.
Lisandro Martinez, who returned to training earlier this week after winning the World Cup with Argentina, has not been deemed ready enough to feature in the squad.
Harry Maguire missed the game against Burnley last week due to illness and Victor Lindelof was out in the following game, which meant that Luke Shaw had to deputise in an unfamiliar role.
His impressive performance earned him the plaudits of supporters and pundits and Ten Hag will be hoping for a repeat of that today as he has named the 27-year-old at centre-back again.
Speaking ahead of the lunch-time kick-off at Molineux, Ten Hag has explained the decision, explaining how Maguire still needs to recover from illness.
“That is one argument [recent illness for Maguire and Lindelof],” Ten Hag is quoted as saying on the official Manchester United website.
“The other is this back line did really well [against Forest]. Also, tactical wise in this game against Wolves I think it fits very well.”
Victory over Julen Lopetegui’s men would take the Reds into the top four, at least temporarily as Tottenham play later this weekend. United are currently one point behind the London club but with one fewer game played.
