Casemiro, Rashford and Fernandes start: confirmed Man United line-up vs Burnley

Manchester United are finally back in action after the season was paused to accommodate the World Cup, with 38 days passing since their last competitive fixture.

That day, Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen scored their first Premier League goals for the club and the pair start again as Burnley make the trip to Old Trafford for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Six of the players named in the starting line-up were not involved in this winter’s World Cup but five others were, with Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes joining Eriksen on the list of returning stars. Furthermore, Luke Shaw, Fred, Facundo Pellistri and Antony have all been named on the bench.

Anthony Martial is leading the line after taking part in both of United’s mid-season friendlies and as things stand, he is the only out-and-out senior forward at the club after Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial departure.

Rashford is hoping to build on his fine goalscoring form in Qatar as he eyes a good return to Old Trafford, whilst Fernandes will be doing the same after impressing for Portugal.

Confirmed Manchester United line-up (4-2-3-1): Dubravka; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, McTominay, Malacia; Casemiro, Eriksen; Rashford, Fernandes, Garnacho; Martial
