Bryan Robson names Manchester United duo in 2022 FIFA World Cup best XI

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has named two players from the club in his 2022 FIFA World Cup best XI.

Captain Marvel only picked Lionel Messi from the World Cup-winning Argentina squad, which may come as a surprise because they had a number of stand out performers throughout the tournament.

The two Manchester United players included are Raphael Varane and Casemiro, while the rest of the XI consisted of Dominik Livakovic, Kyle Walker, Josko Gvardiol, Theo Hernandez, Sofyan Amrabat, Antoine Griezmann, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe.

In his Daily Mail column, Robson wrote: “I’ll probably get accused of Manchester United bias, but Varane has been a huge influence on France’s defence all the way through and held them together with his composure and anticipation.”

He added: “At times, those around him, such as Dayot Upamecano, have looked rash and prone to lunging in yet Varane covered well and got them out of trouble. He was terrific en route to the final.”

On Casemiro, Robson gave a pretty straight-forward reason for his selection.

“[Casemiro] oozes calmness in the centre of the park and is an excellent passer of the ball.”

Robson’s Team of the Tournament: Livakovic (Croatia); Walker (England), Varane (France), Gvardiol (Croatia), Hernandez (France); Casemiro (Brazil), Amrabat (Morocco), Griezmann (France); Messi (Argentina), Kane (England), Mbappe (France).
