David de Gea could leave Manchester United when his contract expires in the summer of 2023.

According to Florian Plettenberg, the club are not currently considering triggering the clause in De Gea’s contract that would keep him at the club for an additional year.

United are open to finding a new No.1 goalkeeper, however, the Spaniard is keen to stay at Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old has overseen fluctuating form in recent seasons but has looked, arguably, back to his best so far this season. This may come down to the centre-back partnership in front of him, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, gelling together exceptionally under Erik ten Hag.

Stretty News’ verdict

De Gea is the last remaining player to have played under Sir Alex Ferguson and regardless of people’s thoughts on his performances, it would be an incredibly sad day when Old Trafford had to say goodbye to him. He has stayed at the club through the highs and lows, has been here for over 10 years and is United through and through.

  1. I think De Gea should stay with United, but his salary reduce. New goalie should be prioritize. We do appreciate him for his contributions towards the club over the years.
