Manchester United target Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.

According to El Crack Deportivo, Manchester United are actively in the race to sign the Uruguayan midfielder, while Liverpool and Real Madrid are being linked with a move for the former Juventus man.

The 25-year-old has been one of Tottenham’s standout players this season, with Antonio Conte using him mainly as a box-to-box midfielder in a pivot alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Bentancur has impressed since his permanent switch to north London in the last January transfer window, racking up 39 appearances while providing five goals and two assists so far this term.

If a deal is struck with Tottenham, Erik ten Hag will have more depth in midfield and he would be able to rotate Bentancur and Christian Eriksen as the strongest contenders to partner Casemiro in the middle.

The Uruguay international could also be the ideal number eight to operate behind Bruno Fernandes.

However, on the other hand, Liverpool’s midfield needs a makeover and Real Madrid appear to be buying for the future.

This deal may have potential in the summer but I can’t see Tottenham selling us or Liverpool one of their best players midway through the season.
