Patrice Evra disagrees with Roy Keane’s assessment of Brazil players dancing

Roy Keane disapproved of Brazil’s goal celebrations against South Korea last week, but former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra completely disagrees with his assessment that dancing during games is disrespectful towards the opponent.

Following Vinicius’ opener in the 4-1 win, Brazil showed off a series of dance routines to celebrate each goal, with manager Tite getting involved after the third goal.

Keane was fuming in the ITV Sport studio and has since told Sky Bet, as per the Daily Mail: “I love watching Brazil and what they stand for.

“When you think of the World Cup you think of Brazil, I love watching them because they are brilliant at football, but not when they are dancing, or the manager starts dancing, it’s not respectful.

“I don’t get how a manager can dance when the game is still going ahead, he’s got an opposition manager 10 yards away from him, you’ve got to watch that. The game is about respect. Dance afterwards in the dressing room, or in the nightclub, that’s not a problem.

“But why is it okay for Brazil to do it during the game? If everyone has a dance after a goal, the games will be going on for three days.

“Do you know what they should start doing, when coaches do their pro licence, show the managers how to do a little dance on the sideline, forget tactics.”

Brazil are in action against Croatia today (3pm) as they embark on a test to reach the World Cup semi-finals. Tite will be hoping his players can dance their way into the next round, while Keane could be next to showcase his dancing moves if the Brazilians crash out of the tournament.

However, Patrice Evra doesn’t agree with Keane and thinks the Irishman is missing a point about how much joy football brings to Brazil. They feel dancing is a way of expressing this which I thought everybody involved in football knew already.

Evra told Betfair (via Manchester Evening News): “Brazil is Brazil. I know Roy Keane wasn’t happy and said they weren’t respecting the other team by dancing, but if you know Brazil, they dance every single day. I don’t understand why people think it’s disrespectful. I think it’s a joy.

“Ronaldinho was dancing on the pitch when he played and that’s what people pay for. Even if they score 10 goals and they do that dance, as a fan I love it, it makes me smile. I don’t think it’s disrespectful.

“Of course, if I’m playing against them and I see them dancing, maybe some tackles would fly, because we’re all human.

“In football we have a lot of respect, but we also like to express our joy when we’re happy. If I was losing 3-0 and I saw a player doing some tricks, my first reaction would be to put a tackle in, but this is football. I love banter, I like to make fun of people and I want football to make fun of me.”

It’s not like Tite was doing the iconic Sharpey Shuffle.
