Joao Felix focused on World Cup rather than uncertain Atletico Madrid future

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix insists that he is solely focused on the World Cup as he continues to be linked with a move away from the La Liga club in January.

It has almost become a common cliche for footballers whenever they don’t want to discuss something with the media, but the World Cup is a fair excuse for any player who has reached the quarter-finals in Qatar.

Manchester United will be in the market looking for a replacement for the recently-departed Cristiano Ronaldo, and his Portuguese teammate is one of the candidates thought to be high on the club’s wish list.

We already know that Felix’s relationship with Diego Simeone has reached its breaking point, so it’s inevitable that he will leave in January. Whether United have the money to do a deal midway through the season is a completely different story.

That hasn’t put a stop to the non-stop speculation that surrounds United.

“I am focused on the World Cup,” Felix told reporters at a press conference ahead of Portugal’s quarter-final clash with Morocco on Saturday, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“100 percent on the World Cup and having a great World Cup. We are thinking of having a great tournament and on the Portuguese. I will talk about Atletico when the World Cup is over.”

Felix isn’t your traditional centre-forward but I have a feeling we will see a fluid attack under Erik ten Hag next season. Something like what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was working on before Ronaldo’s arrival last year.
