Preview: Manchester United face Cadiz in first mid-season friendly

Manchester United take on Cadiz in the first of their two mid-season friendlies in Spain.

The Red Devils have travelled to Spain for a warm-weather camp this week. This is all part of Erik ten Hag’s plan to prepare the squad for the return of domestic football on December 21, when United take on Burnley in the Carabao Cup.

Meanwhile, Cadiz don’t return to La Liga action until December 30, so they have more time to prepare for their game against Almeria. Last time out they suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Real Union in the Copa del Rey.

Cadiz sit 19th in La Liga — level on points with 18th placed Sevilla.

United took three points from Fulham in their previous match, thanks to a late winner from Alejandro Garnacho. The youngster is expected to start tonight’s game against Cadiz.

Our second mid-season friendly will take place on Saturday before the squad returns to Manchester.

Team News

Cadiz only had one first-team player at the World Cup (Awer Mabil of Australia), so they will have a pretty full squad for the match. United have 11 players involved in the quarter-finals and some of the other players have yet to return after their nations were eliminated from the World Cup.

This may present a chance for youngsters to impress, including Robbie Mainoo, Charlie Savage, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie McNeill.

Erik ten Hag has a number of experienced players to select from, too. David de Gea, Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial are all available.

On a positive note, Brandon Williams and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have returned from injuries while Axel Tuanzebe will continue his recovery in Manchester.
