Liverpool star claims Marcus Rashford is underrated

Liverpool and England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold claims Marcus Rashford is “underrated” because he makes defenders “worried”. The Manchester United star has faced his compatriot on a number of occasions in the top flight and often caused him problems.

Speaking to talkSPORT about Rashford, Alexander-Arnold said: “When he steps on the pitch, the first you think is that he is going to use his speed, his pace to get in behind to get at people. He’s skilful, he can score and create.

“You don’t want to play against him because you’re worried what he is going to do. He’s an outstanding player. He’s underrated, he can win games for club and country — he’s shown that before and will continue to do that.”

Rashford, 25, has been England’s best player at the World Cup despite not cementing a starting place in the team. There has been calls to start him in Sunday’s round of 16 clash against Senegal but it remains to be seen who Gareth Southgate will select in attack.

Against Iran, the Manchester United star came off the bench to score with his third touch in a matter of seconds. He was a late substitute against Wales before starting against Wales and scoring a brace to inspire a 3-0 win.

All you need to do is look at the contrast from last season when Rashford falling out of the United team, with Ralf Rangnick often preferring fellow academy graduate Anthony Elanga. Thankfully, he is nearing his optimum again and his England team-mates have been raving about his performances in Qatar.
