Manchester United are scrambling to find a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo in the upcoming January transfer window after the Portugal forward unexpectedly left the club.
Ronaldo failed in his attempt to engineer a move away from the club over the summer but when it became clear that he would be staying, the expectation was that he would honour the final year of his contract.
Instead, he grew increasingly frustrated with Erik ten Hag’s decision to keep him out of the side and his explosive interview with TalkTV host Piers Morgan meant that a mutual termination of his contract was agreed upon.
His departure means that United are light in the striker department, with Anthony Martial being the only forward remaining. The Frenchman’s neverending bout with injuries means that he is unlikely to be relied upon by Ten Hag.
Now, it has been suggested that United are open to signing Chelsea star Christian Pulisic as a replacement for Ronaldo, having initially registered their interest over the summer.
That’s according to ESPN, who say that the Old Trafford club are open to signing the winger on loan as Chelsea are now expected to allow the USMNT star to leave.
As per the report, United are one of several Premier League clubs to be notified of Chelsea’s stance and Pulisic’s representatives are now working to find him a new club.
It’s claimed that although Ten Hag is keen on filling the hole left by Ronaldo’s departure, substantial movement is not expected for the Reds in January.
Pulisic’s availability comes at a good time for United, however, with his versatility claimed to be one of the reasons he is so appealing to the club.
This is not the first time United have been linked with the American dynamo. Their interest dates back to before he joined Chelsea but he was also a target in the final few weeks of this year’s summer transfer window.
