Christian Eriksen impresses despite narrow defeat to France

Denmark have been dealt a huge blow in their bid to qualify from their group in this winter’s World Cup following their narrow 2-1 defeat to France on Saturday evening.

Kasper Hjulmand’s men also dropped points in their opening game against Tunisia and must now beat Australia in the final game whilst also hoping France do them a favour in their game against Tunisia.

Christian Eriksen was involved in Denmark’s only goal against France, with his corner eventually finding Andreas Christensen, who equalised late in the game.

It didn’t take long for France to reclaim their advantage, however, with Kylian Mbappe securing all three points and qualification for France.

Eriksen was one of the standout players for last year’s EURO 2020 semi-finalists and the Danish playmaker’s impressive stats proved it.

According to Statman Dave, the 30-year-old won 100% of his tackles and had a pass accuracy of 88%. He was the focal point of Denmark’s possession and that was reflected by the figures as well – he had 83 touches over the 90 minutes.

Eriksen completed 56 passes in total and landed six out of his nine attempted long balls. Additionally, he completed three key passes and accurately found his man with two attempted crosses.

Unfortunately, it didn’t result in credit for Denmark in their group but their fate remains somewhat in their own hands ahead of their showdown clash with Australia.

The Socceroos will fancy their chances of making it to the next round, having surprisingly beat Tunisia earlier this week.
