Alejandro Garnacho hails Lisandro Martinez after impressive World Cup display

Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho was delighted to see Argentina beat Mexico at the World Cup, and he took time after the match to praise team-mate Lisandro Martinez.

Martinez made his first start at the World Cup as Lionel Scaloni changed things around at the back following Argentina’s shock defeat against Saudi Arabia in their opening match of the tournament.

Time was slipping away from Argentina until a flash of that left boot, from Lionel Messi, who was liberated like his team-mates. Their captain slung hard to his last chance and he wasn’t going to let his final World Cup campaign end in premature fashion. Not yet anyway.

Enzo Fernandez sealed the three points for Argentina after his curled effort with just three minutes left of normal time.

At the back, Martinez was dominated as per usual, and he showed his manager why it was a mistake not to start him against Saudi Arabia. He committed himself to every tackle and didn’t let Mexico get in behind.

Garnacho labelled him “the best” in an Instagram comment after the match.

The Manchester United youngster will be aiming for a place in the Argentina squad for the next World Cup.
