England have four points after two games in this winter’s World Cup after they were held to a 0-0 draw by the USA in Qatar.

Gareth Southgate named an unchanged side from the game against Iran, in which the Three Lions claimed three comfortable points. Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have started both games, with the former making his 50th appearance for England on Friday.

Marcus Rashford was named on the bench again despite his goalscoring cameo last time out – the 25-year-old will be hoping for his first start in the World Cup in England’s last game against Wales.

USA started the game on the front foot, with England struggling to get past the Americans’ high press in the first half. The North American giants started well after the interval as well but faded as the game entered its final 20 minutes.

Marcus Rashford was introduced with roughly 15 minutes to go but was used on the right-hand side, which is arguably his weakest position across the frontline.

Luke Shaw was close to assisting the winner in what was England’s best chance in the second half when his perfect cross was headed wide by Harry Kane in additional time.

Harry Maguire’s good form continued as the much-maligned defender added another dominant England performance in a major international tournament to his track record.

All four nations in Group B could still make it through to the next round but England are the only side on four points and will be confident of landing a first-place finish.
