Marko Arnautovic claims Manchester United tried to sign him several times

Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic was linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer, but the club pulled back on its interest after upsetting fans due to questionable remarks made by the player in the past.

It was a valid reason for turning up nose up at Arnautovic and I would like to think United stand by it, even though he has been in goalscoring form this season.

Arnautovic previously played for Stoke City and West Ham in the Premier League where he established himself as a goal threat. However, at 33, he was never the solution for United. I say that at a time I know United desperately need a centre-forward.

The player has since revealed that United tried to sign him several times during the last transfer window, but he was happy to remain in Italy, where he moved in August 2021, following a transfer from Shanghai Port.

“Manchester United tried to sign me several times,” Arnautovic told Laola1. “And it was a difficult decision to stay in Italy because my family wanted to return to England.

“For me it’s clear that the Red Devils remain at the top of the universe. And Bologna, as a name, are not. But that’s fine. Here everything is calm, you have time for yourself and no stress. This is only good for me.”

Arnautovic has been prolific for Bologna again this season, scoring eight times and registering one assist in 13 Serie A appearances.

He is free to hold talks with foreign clubs in January but we don’t think United will be showing any interest any having their wrists slapped during the summer.
