Christian Eriksen’s return to a major international tournament will be one of the main headlines this winter after the Denmark international suffered a cardiac arrest during last year’s European Championship.
Since then, Eriksen has completed one of the most astounding comebacks in football history with Brentford and now, Manchester United.
Eriksen was one of Erik ten Hag’s first signings this summer and the 30-year-old has wasted no time in returning to his brilliant best to help United to a promising first half of the season.
It’s unlikely that he will be thinking about that right now, however. Eriksen is preparing to represent Denmark in a major tournament once again and speaking ahead of their first game against Tunisia, the former Spurs star has commented on helping his nation after they qualified without him.
“It’ll be very special,” Eriksen is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website. “The World Cup is only once in a while, so you know how much you have to work to get there.
“Obviously, I was outside of football and the country did qualify without me which was very nice and now to be part of it and help the country at the World Cup is very special.
“We did well last time and now it’s up to us to see how far we go this time.”

As Eriksen mentions, Denmark exceeded all expectations at the Euro’s last year and Kasper Hjulmand’s men will be hoping for more of the same this time around. Denmark exited the tournament in 2018 on penalties but this year, they are many supporters’ pick for Qatar’s Dark Horse.
With Eriksen back and firing, they are hot favourites to advance from their group alongside France and if the Nations League meeting between the two sides is anything to go by, Denmark will fancy their chances of going through as group winners.
