Leon Bailey was seen kicking out at Lisandro Martinez during last night’s Carabao Cup tie between Manchester United and Aston Villa.
The match came just four days after the two teams met in the Premier League, but sadly that game resulted in a 3-1 win for Unai Emery’s side, so last night’s win can be seen as an act of revenge.
One player out for revenge was Villa winger Leon Bailey, who came off the bench in the second half and contributed to their second goal of the evening (Diogo Dalot’s own goal). He expressed his disappointment with match officials and VAR post-match at the weekend after Lisandro Martinez appeared to elbow the Jamaica international twice into the ribcage.
Very disappointed in the referees today, I couldn’t breath for a second after getting elbowed twice in my rib. The linesman went on to say I shouldn’t be saying anything because I was doing just the same thing to Martinez. Sometimes I don’t understand why we got VAR. SMH.

However, there was another coming together between the two players as Bailey lunged out and kicked Martinez on his knee.
Very disappointed in the referees today, Martinez could barely walk for a second after being assaulted. @leonbailey 🔴😡 https://t.co/q0cd1Mcdgo pic.twitter.com/5rcsgeIba1

The worst thing is, not only this a stone wall red card but the official David Coote was looking right at Leon Bailey when he studded Lisandro Martinez 🙄 pic.twitter.com/od972tsV5l

Bailey escaped with a yellow card but he was blessed not to have been sent off.
If only VAR was used during Carabao Cup matches, eh?
