Sir Jim Ratcliffe drops interest in buying Manchester United

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has dropped interest in buying Manchester United since the summer.

The billionaire owner of INEOS has already made it clear that he won’t be making an offer for Liverpool, whose owner Fenway Sports Group this week confirmed it was open to selling its shares.

Many suggested that owners like FSG and the Glazers may look to sell up following the collapse of the European Super League. Sources close to Stretty News have maintained for months that Manchester United is up for sale – with a valuation of approximately £4.25bn hanging over the club.

James Robson of Association Press claims Ratcliffe, a lifelong United supporter, has dropped all interest in buying the Old Trafford club. He won’t be bidding for Liverpool – or any other Premier League – as things stand to let him focus on building Ligue 1 outfit Nice.

Robson wrote: “Sir Jim Ratcliffe has dropped all interest in buying United. Won’t bid for Liverpool either or any other Premier League club as things stand. He was seriously interested in the summer. Now doesn’t see the value in a PL club and would rather focus on growing Nice.”

This news will come as a blow for United fans who got excited about Ratcliffe’s previous interest. It doesn’t look like he will be the one to drive out the Glazers after all.

“Our position has developed since the summer and we are now focusing our efforts in Nice and raising our ambitions for the club to make them into a top tier club in France to compete with PSG,” said an INEOS spokesperson. “This would represent much better value for our investment than buying one of the top tier Premier League clubs.”

Who else could buy Manchester United? That is the big question.
