Manchester United are not expecting to be active in the January transfer market

Manchester United will likely wait until the summer transfer window to sign reinforcements for the squad, as opposed to the January window.

United fans can expect a quiet winter after the World Cup as the club are unlikely to make any statement signings over January.

This is according to Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News, who has reported that the club prefer to start the “next phase of their rebuild” in the summer of 2023.

The board oversaw five arrivals last summer on permanent deals, with 14 players being released or sold and 12 players departing on loan.

The likes of Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Antony have already established their place in the starting line-up, with Tyrell Malacia already proven a strong contender for the permanent left-back position.

Seeing how these players have made an instant impact to the side’s results and form is positive, but it can be infuriating that the board have took so many years to bolster these positions, despite supporters regularly highlighting the need for a refresh.

Now, United need a striker and with the policy seemingly being to wait until summer, it looks as though the club may struggle with results after the World Cup.

United will struggle with current forward options

Relying on an injury-prone Anthony Martial, 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford, who is not as clinical as he should be a lot of the time, is not enough to see out a season including the Premier League, Europa League and cup competitions.

There is also a chance that Ronaldo or Rashford could pick up an injury during the World Cup, in which case United are left with even fewer options at their disposal.

Despite the recent loss to Aston Villa, the Reds have looked significantly stronger and in a better position than in the past few seasons.

Failing to back Erik ten Hag will be one way United resort to the same old scenarios; poor results, unhappy players and struggling to make the top four.
