Bayern Munich striker snubs interest from Manchester United to stay in Germany

Manchester United are seriously interested in signing Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo in January.

That is according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who claims United’s hopes could be dashed as Choupo-Moting would prefer to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich after the World Cup.

Plettenberg tweeted: “News Choupo-Moting: #MUFC is seriously interested in a transfer in winter, they have inquired about him. He’s a candidate to replace #Ronaldo. Manchester United bosses expect him to leave in winter. But: Choupo will stay! Talks about a new contract after the World Cup.”

The Cameroonian spent a season in the Premier League when he joined Stoke City back in 2017. During that campaign, Choupo-Moting scored both goals in a 2-2 draw against United and was named man of the match.

Choupo-Moting joined Paris Saint-Germain the following year as Stoke City suffered relegation to the Championship. The striker spent two years in the French capital before Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich came knocking on the door.

The 33-year-old has already scored 10 goals and registered three assists in just 14 games this season, but signing him now would see United add another short-gap striker option to the squad.

I am of the opinion that we need to quickly move on from Cristiano Ronaldo but United should be in the market for a younger goalscorer than Choupo-Moting.
